MBSR 2016

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week education and training program designed to cultivate a capacity for mindfulness to cope more effectively with short and long-term stressful challenges.  The program was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Center for Mindfulness in 1979.

MBSR includes 8 weekly sessions of 2.5 hours each, in addition to a 6-hour retreat.  Prior to registering, participants should plan to attend every session and practice mindfulness at least 30 minutes per day through out the program.  However, it is quite normal to have to miss one or two classes.

There is a 2.5 hour Orientation to the MBSR program that each person is asked to attend.  The purpose of this program is to help ensure that the MBSR program is a good fit for your needs.  There is no charge for this session.  

In January 2018, the orientation will be offered on

  • Wednesday, Jan 3, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday, Jan 6, 2018 from 9:30 am to Noon
  • Tuesday, Jan 9 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm

No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MBSR.

Mindfulselfcompassion

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an 8-week education and training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.  The program was developed by Kristin Neff, PhD, the pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion (www.self-compassion.org) and Christopher K. Germer, PhD, a leader in the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy (www.mindfulselfcompassion.org).

MSC includes 8 weekly sessions of 2.75 hours each, in addition to a 4-hour retreat.  Prior to registering, participants should plan to attend the majority of the sessions and plan to start a mindful self-compassion practice.

No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC.  To insure safety, participants are asked to provide background information when they register for the program.

Doug's Mindful Self-Compassion course, by some happenstance, came along in my life after I experienced a major loss and was needing skills to cope. Having previously taken Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, I knew Doug would make me feel safe in the group with my grief. I also felt confident I'd learn new Mindfulness skills to cope.
