There are usually many opportunities during the day where you can apply mindfulness and experience a shift in wellbeing. Try this to let go a stress reaction. (Taken from the book, True Belonging, by Jeffrey Brantley, a mindfulness expert who has written extensively about mindfulness and anxiety).

Stress reactions are commonly made up of a combination of physical, emotional, and cognitive reactions to a demand. When they surface, it is very common for us to naturally try getting rid of them in whatever way possible. An internal struggle may ensue as the reaction may not leave us just because we want it to.

Try this…..

When you become aware of your reaction to a demand…..don’t do anything other than acknowledge its presence with acceptance. You can use phrases like “it’s like this” and “yes” to help you accept that this is your experience in the moment. For example, let’s say you start to feel frustration during your day.

Pay attention to the feeling of frustration with full acceptance.

Try saying to yourself “it is like this (frustration)…yes, it is here”. I can feel it and accept that it is here………. “it is like this (frustration)…yes, it is here”. I can feel it and accept that it is here…..“it is like this (frustration)…yes, it is here”. I can feel it and accept that it is here………. “it is like this (frustration)…yes, it is here”. I can feel it and accept that it is here.
